My Air Force son is on the Left side of the picture. This was taken the last time we were together in November. It may look a little crazy, but that’s what happens when people have been married 35 years and have seven children and ten grandchildren and are still fortunate to have parents around.
When my son asked me about joining the Air Force, I requested he stay with us until I finished my campaign for State Representative. I needed him to head up my signage committee, so I asked him to wait until after the election.
The same week I was sworn in as State Representative, he was sworn into the Air Force. We have seen a lot of changes since then. Some of the changes have involved putting women in combat, muzzling the Chaplains, allowing homosexuals and those who are confused about their gender to enlist. Have we turned our military into a social experiment?
That was 13 years ago. Now my son is a navigator and has been sent to the Middle East. He is in an area so dangerous that he can’t tell me where he is stationed, what he is doing or why he is there. Just about the only thing we can discuss is what they are giving him to eat and the quality of what they define as “coffee”.
The President of the United States has the power to greatly provoke other nations, yet only Congress has the power to declare a war. The Vietnam War, The Korean War and the Gulf War were not “wars” because they were never declared by Congress.
If it looks like a war, acts like a war and is funded like a war, is it possibly a war? Why is the Congress allowing our military to behave as if we are at war, yet refuses to declare a war with a stated mission and purpose?
I’ve heard several people say we don’t want to have another Vietnam War. Back in 1973, the Congress made an effort to assure us we would never have another Vietnam War with the passage of “The War Powers Act“, which requires a declared war if the President wants to keep our troops fighting for more than 60 days. It seems like both Congress and the White House are willing to make a mockery of our laws.
As a mother of one of our military officers, and for all the other family members out there, it behooves us all to question what we are doing, especially when I read articles about our continued involvement in the Middle East.
We cannot force those who behave in an uncivil manner to treat each other nicely. As much as I would love to see world peace, it may not be possible, nor is it the duty of America to make it happen.
We are owed an explanation. If it is a worthy cause, let us all enjoy sharing a common goal. If it is a quagmire, we need to question our Congress on what they are doing to our Nation.
As it says in the third verse of the Star Spangled Banner, we need to know if our cause is just so that we can count on God’s help, mercy and divine providence for our actions:
Then Conquer we must, when our cause it is just, and this be our motto, “In God is our trust”.
Our guest on Home Front this week, Douglas Wilson, discusses his thoughts on what is happening with our military. You will enjoy hearing his reasoned thought process.
If you were in the position of advising the President of the United States and our Congress, what would you tell them? We deserve to be informed of our mission, our purpose and our exit plan.

I am so grateful we were able to hear from him. As a mom, we like to
see what our kids look like. So far, so good!
WHAT YOU CAN DO…
1.) Talk with your members of Congress and ask them what mission we are trying to accomplish by sending our troops to the Middle East. Be sure to let me know their answers because we as a Nation deserve to know what we are doing.
2.) Enjoy our podcast this week with Douglas Wilson from Moscow, Idaho. He offers us some insights on what we are doing with our military. You will want to share it with friends. It will encourage you. If you want to get a notice every time we have a new podcast, just click the highlighted button to sign up on I-Tunes.
2.) We’re asking for donations to promote awareness of Home Front. Even $5 or $10 will go a long way.
